Chichester, West Sussex, Town Garden Landscape Design
Situated in Chichester, West Sussex, this town garden redesign by South Downs Gardens balances clean architectural geometry with vibrant, naturalistic planting. Conceived as a seamless visual extension of a contemporary glazed living area, the layout creates an effortless transition from indoor domestic spaces to an expansive, multi-layered outdoor sanctuary.
Spatial Concept & Hard Landscaping
The master plan divides a long, generous plot into a sequence of outdoor rooms for formal entertaining and family life. A smooth pale porcelain terrace sits flush with the sliding doors, establishing a seamless indoor-outdoor transition that mirrors the home’s contemporary architecture. From here, a golden gravel pathway frames a rectangular lawn, providing a crisp, geometric walk around the borders. Majestic mature oak and silver birch trees are integrated directly into the layout to anchor views, while bespoke horizontal cedar fencing introduces warm organic tones along the boundaries.
Soft Landscaping & Planting Palette
A multi-layered planting matrix softens the hardscaping with seasonal colour and wildlife interest. Purple Salvia, Allium, and acid-green Euphorbia dominate sunny borders along the paths, while raised pleached screening along the fence line provides vertical privacy. Beyond the lawn, stepping stones cross a deep herbaceous border of roses and peonies. This threshold creates a sense of discovery, leading to a hidden secondary garden equipped with play structures and a trampoline that is completely obscured from the main house.
