South Downs Gardens is an independent garden design and landscaping company led by Chris and Julia, based in the heart of West Sussex. We design and build thoughtful, well-crafted gardens that feel connected to the local landscape and suit modern living.
Every project begins with understanding how you want to use your outdoor space. Chris – Garden Designer
Co-founder
Chris has over 20 years of hands-on landscaping experience, with a strong focus on quality craftsmanship, materials, and technical detail. After completing his postgraduate diploma at the Oxford College of Garden Design, he went on to work alongside respected designers Charlotte Rowe and Andrew Fisher Tomlin.
Alongside his design skills, Chris is known for his ability to understand clients’ needs and manage every stage of the build, ensuring a smooth process and a truly bespoke result.
Julia – Business Manager
Co-founder
Julia brings creativity, organisation, and a calm, thoughtful approach to South Downs Gardens. With a Fine Arts degree and a passion for design, she combines her creative eye with strong business discipline and practical skills.
She oversees the day-to-day running of the business, including project management, HR and accounts, H&S, and company systems. Julia also leads our marketing, managing everything from digital strategy and social media to branding, website content, and visual presentation.
